A ground-breaking first for live coverage in such a remote location! ... [more]

Team Alvimedica, the youngest crew in the Volvo Ocean Race, rounded the iconic Cape Horn first today just after 1400 UTC and only 15 minutes ahead of Abu Dhabi Racing, in a hotly contested battle at the front of the fleet. While the 6,776- nautical mile stage from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajai, Brazil, is far from over and there are no race points for reaching the iconic landmark first, a Ca ... [more]

Four boats in the Volvo Ocean Race celebrated rounding the venerated landmark of Cape Horn on Monday, a pleasure cruelly denied Dongfeng Race Team (Charles Caudrelier/FRA) after the Chinese boat’s mast was broken early in a dramatic day on Leg 5. Team Alvimedica (Charlie Enright/USA) had the considerable honour of leading the battered fleet past the fabled point at 1407 GMT, just 15 minutes cle ... [more]

The official America's Cup website reports that the entered Competitors in the 35th America's Cup will vote this week on changes presented as cost saving measures. In effect, the measures centre around a complete change in the boat already announced in the Protocol nine months ago, and for which several teams have design projects underway. ... [more]

Regular weather produces regular results, but sailors, being what they are, are not totally regular, and on the third and final day of the St. Thomas International Regatta they provided some surprises. Sunshine and a fine breeze of around 15-17 knots gave the competitors the challenge they required and they all enjoyed a variety of courses. ... [more]

The fleet has its foot to the floor, ears pinned back and heads down racing as fast as they can to Cape Horn after separating from the ice limit. The pack can sail deeper and faster at 25 knots to the Horn, with Team SCA only managing an average of 16 knots. More concerning for Team SCA is the incoming cold front that they need to outrun. Winds of up to 50 knots and waves of 20-30 feet are likely. ... [more]

The Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC) hosted today’s third round of the 2015 Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series (PPWCS). Sensational Autumnal weather greeted the crews that had turned out for the Women In Sailing Challenge, which is usually a set of sprint races. ... [more]

A quiet finish to the week with little in the way of economic data releases. US GDP missed expectations of 2.4%, coming in at 2.2%, surprising few. The University of Michigan Confidence reported a rise but this was little to analyst and equities were steady. Yelen's commentary was in line with expectations and the Dollar had a positive reaction to hawkish remarks ... [more]

The two latest TP52’s to come out of Cookson Boats in February, Sled and Provezza, are both destined for the TP52 Super Series to be held the in Mediterranean later this year. Both teams have chosen a new type of fender to protect their vessels, created by Hauraki Fenders. ... [more]

So, the powers that control the meteorological conditions at regattas decided, rightfully, that they had achieved near perfection on the opening day, and maybe because that they decided that the behavior at the subsequent party was exemplary, to tweak it and in doing so, made it close to perfect. They had reduced the top end of the wind range to 20 knots maximum and eliminated the broaching and c ... [more]

The AUD slipped back to 0.7825, while the KIWI dropped below 0.7600, still well supported by interest rate differentials and a weak Dollar. Economic data interpretations and the impact this will have on Central Bank perceived actions will continue to drive equities, bonds and currencies! ... [more]

If racing sailors could choose . . . it would be for consistent wind of 20-22 knots, sunshine and courses that are not of the repeated windward/leeward variety and occasional natural hazards. Those attending the St. Thomas International Regatta had exactly that today. The natural hazards struck hard with some – beach catamarans upside down are difficult to right ... [more]

The series of plays was triggered by a statement from the Luna Rossa Challenge that they would consider withdrawing from the 35th America's Cup if there was a change to the class announced nine months previously ... [more]

Another sleepless night for most of the fleet. As the girls on Team SCA had no choice but to take a less-is-more approach to navigate the ice limit, the rest of the fleet has been caught up in a gybing battle the whole way between the ice limits #7 and #8. ... [more]
