Team Australia is the Sydney based ORMA 60 trimaran owned and skippered by renowned yachtsman Sean Langman and is also the name given to the racing team behind this extreme multihull. Team Australia’s design and speeds are like nothing else seen in Australian waters. Team Australia weighs in at 5.7 tons and has a length and beam of 60 feet. Setting passage and race records is the team’s raison d’être. This passage record has now been ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. Over the 630 nautical miles, Team Australia averaged 22 knots and reached a top speed of 39.6 knots. The former French-owned trimaran was repeatedly raced hard across the North Atlantic and won the doublehanded Transat Jacques Vabre from France to Brazil.
Team Australia’s base is Noakes Boat and Shipyards North Sydney where it is expertly maintained and prepared for all planned Southern Hemisphere passage and race records.
