Marine13 - 101 reasons to book, China Maritime Museum, SCIBS countdown

Hello (again for some of you). We had a gremlin in the system for a small portion of our subscribers, who couldn't open some of this edition's stories, hence the resend. If you did receive, we have added a fresh batch for you.

Horizon Shores Queensland’’s Gold Coast - just one of the locations of berths Marine Auctions has for auction, ending today! -  .. ©

First up, time is running out for you to secure your own marina berth at any of around 20 marinas dotted along the Queensland coast. This is an outstanding opportunity, as they are in high demand and represent strong investments. Marine Auctions online marina berth auction runs until 3pm today, so check out the prime positions on offer.

Then there's news of a massive coup for Queensland firm, Cox Rayner Architects, winning an international architecture competition to design The National Maritime Museum of China - the first national public building competition in China ever won by a Queensland architecture practice, and only the second by an Australian practice (the first being the Beijing ‘Water Cube’).

From some 80 worldwide architects, eight were selected to compete, with three chosen as finalists. The international standing of the competition attracted many of the world’s foremost architects such as Zaha Hadid (UK), Stephen Holl (USA), Preston Scott Cohen (USA), GMP (Germany) and EMBT (Spain).

The Museum is to be developed in Tianjin, China’s fourth largest city (22 million), and the major port city for northern China. It is about 100 kilometres east of Beijing. The Museum is situated on a bay with a large parkland forming part of the project. It will be 80,000 square metres and construction cost is estimated at AUD $290 million. Exhibition fitout is to be another AUD $80 million.

Our congratulations and looking forward to news of opportunities for other Australian businesses across diverse sectors, including marine!

Book now for Marine13. -
Closer to home, Marine13 is counting down the days - just 10 to go - before the welcome reception of this region's most significant trade and industry event, to be held at Sydney's Darling Harbour, May 28-30.

There are still tickets and exhibition opportunities open.

Over two days, Marine13 will present 47 sessions, now with 101 speakers covering every facet of business, marketing and driving growth.

There are 44 exhibitors to date, drawn from the three streams of boating business, marinas and boating safety. The boating safety stream exhibitors range from lifejacket manufacturers through communications specialists. Organisers are still taking bookings for this valuable way to access the key players in the region's recreational marine sector.

In other news, we have some of the Australian launches and regional debuts that will be making a statement at SCIBS this year, also drawing nearer, and planning big things for its 25th anniversary, with exhibitor bookings up on this time last year.

There are new gadgets, gear, boats that are remarkable and record breaking, and plenty to keep you reading today and throughout the week. More coming in dollops between now and next week!

Happy boating!
